A Message from the Commodore

Thanks to everybody who came out last Friday to help celebrate Kitsap County's Washington Healthy Phase 2 reopening! We had a good mix of people and a great vibe going. Lots of smiles! If you missed out, don’t miss this Friday....Adult drinks, Adult Grilled Cheese and Dessert, and of course lots of smiles! Can’t beat that! Sign up early so you can reserve your seat.

With this reopening, we are working on a lineup of Friday night plans and I will reemphasize the importance of your volunteering commitments. It takes a village to provide fun events for our members. If you are concerned about getting out and about right now, I totally understand. Perhaps prepare a meal in the safety of your home and we can arrange other helpers to pick it up and serve at the club in your name. We have lots of great cooks out there and will need your help as we build out our calendar and get rocking and rolling again.

We were lucky to have the President of the Recreational Boating Association of Washington, Bob Wise, as our guest speaker. Bob shared information about the RBAW mission and some of the critical work they are doing as the only WA state organization that lobbies to help protect our rights as boaters. Please stay tuned for more information about their activities and how you can help support their efforts. Read about it now in the news article on our website, RBAW Key Legislative & Regulatory Issues.

Be sure to see the updates on Member Engagement below. We inducted two new members last month, had two more this month, and have two more in the application process, with about 16 others showing interest in joining as we get moving again this summer. The word is out – KCYC is a fun place and an active community partner.

As part of this month’s General Meeting we saw that our current finances continue to reflect a healthy outlook despite the COVID restrictions. We have shown careful management of expenses and made prudent decisions to help us weather through. How can you help you may ask? Please check that you are paid current on your annual dues.

UPDATES ON EVENTS

News from the Social Committee

The Governor has loosened the reigns, so let’s celebrate safely. Last Friday we celebrated Kitsap reaching Healthy Washington Phase 2 with Ken and Sandi serving gourmet beef stroganoff and Jerry was offering liberal pours from the bar. It sure felt good to hang out in the club again. See below for more fun to come!

For now, until restrictions ease further, we plan to offer dine in or take-out options on selected Fridays. Seating must be limited to 20 seats inside, but the bar will be open. Reservations in advance will be required. As before, we must wear masks when not seated and remain seated for the most part. But we can see smiling faces and shout our hellos! Our next event will be Friday, February 26th with gourmet grilled cheese, thanks to Kim Page. After that, St. Patrick's Day....Julie and William Westwater will step in and host.....meat pies, soda bread, other goodies, and Irish music.

So stay tuned; we are picking up steam.....and be ready to host when you get the call.

News from the Membership Committee

The goals of the Membership Engagement Committee is to: improve the New Members Process to become more effective and efficient; create more touchpoints for club members to interact with each other; and to increase engagement by improving the visibility of volunteer opportunities.  We inducted two new members last month, had two more this month, and have two more in the application process and about 16 others showing interest in joining as we get moving again this summer. The Cheers Committee is looking at some great ideas for member activities including: Seattle Zoo in March, Wine Tasting in Woodinville in April, a Zoom with Kitsap Master Gardener, and a Botanical Garden tour on Bainbridge Island.

The Welcome Committee is working on assigning sponsors and mentors and will be working on educational opportunities for both new members and mentors.  Other activities to be undertaken by the committee include: updating the membership application to include some small changes to make it more user friendly; and sending out membership cards to all renewing members.

The Volunteer Committee will move forward with future actions once we move past COVID restrictions.

Kitsap County approved for Phase 2!!!

We did it! Kitsap, Mason and other counties in the state's Northwest region will be allowed to move into Phase 2 of the state's Healthy Washington "Roadmap to Recovery" plan on Sunday, February 14h. This means we will be able to reopen the clubhouse for Friday nights adhering to the 25% capacity limitation. We will of course still continue to utilize the safe practices employed in the past in order to keep our members safe, but it means we can begin to have a little fun at the same time.

What angel forced their way through the snow to brighten our doorsteps with a smile and a bag of sweet treats?! No other than our own angel, John Gantz. And Shelley delighted all with her special chocolate lava cake.  What a sweet way to celebrate Valentine's Day.

Thank you John & Shelly Gantz for delighting us all!
